The Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Esther Monzón, announced the upcoming opening of a Center for Specialty Care (CAE) in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote. This new public center aims to increase the island's healthcare system's resolution capacity and organizational efficiency.
Once adaptation works are completed in the leased 1,460 square meter property, the CAE will feature a Minor Ambulatory Surgery operating room, three Radiology rooms (simple radiology, ultrasound, and mammography), and approximately fifteen consultation rooms for various hospital specialties.
This healthcare facility will serve as an outpatient resource complementary to the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital. The minister emphasized that management, professionals, and activities will be entirely public, ruling out the outsourcing of services.
Esther Monzón explained that the center will be attached to the Health Services Management of Lanzarote of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) and will be staffed by public system professionals. This initiative seeks to enhance the public system's own capacity to reduce waiting times.
As part of a strategy implemented in Lanzarote over the past three years, there has been a 20 percent increase in the hiring of medical staff, reaching 244 specialists, in addition to nursing staff and Auxiliary Nursing Care Technicians (TCAE). Ten new spaces for consultations and tests have also been established.
Furthermore, work is underway on the new Outpatient Consultations area at the Molina Orosa Hospital, which will add approximately sixteen new consultation rooms. Between this new area and the Costa Teguise CAE, the Health Area of Lanzarote will incorporate around 31 new consultation spaces in the coming months.
