The municipality of Gáldar is set to become an educational hub in May, hosting a crucial gathering for parents, teachers, and artists. Under the theme 'The pedagogy of the local', these pioneering conferences aim to strengthen ties between schools, homes, cultural spaces, and the environment, at a time of profound educational transformation.
Driven by the Gáldar City Council's Department of Education and organized by the Ocho Pies entity, with the collaboration of the DISA Foundation, the event has already surpassed 400 registrations. The program includes conferences, practical workshops, and participatory sessions, always with a focus on childhood and community.
“"Public education is the pillar that sustains a more just, creative, and environmentally conscious society. These conferences are an opportunity to demonstrate that innovation, emotion, and transformation can also come from the public sector."
A spokesperson for the organization highlighted that, after a decade of experience, there is a firm belief that play and art are central elements of any educational process. The goal of these conferences is to share this vision and open the debate on how to integrate everyday life and the memory of the place into the classroom.
The management of the DISA Foundation emphasized the importance of private entities' participation in supporting educational initiatives with territorial roots. It was stressed that investing in local education means investing in the future, equal opportunities, and the development of a freer childhood more connected to its environment.
The program will kick off on Thursday, May 7, with the institutional inauguration, followed by a reflection from Catherine L’Ecuyer on attention in the digital age and a presentation on art and school. On Friday, May 8, the Italian psychopedagogue Francesco Tonucci will participate online with his conference 'I go out to play'. On Saturday, May 9, the Ocho Pies model will be presented, and topics such as play ecosystems and artistic creativity will be addressed, culminating in a round table of conclusions. Additionally, pedagogical capsules will be offered featuring experiences from centers in Gran Canaria, such as CEIP Arucas and the Arquigrafías project.
