This future center, which will include a cafeteria, is conceived as a meeting point for local coffee activity, which has gained international recognition. The main objective is to provide the municipality with a cultural and tourist infrastructure that enhances the value of Agaete coffee, without competing with the experiences already offered by private producing farms in El Valle.
The renovation of the property, located next to Maipés, is being managed by the Sociedad Gestión de Proyectos y Estudios Turísticos en Canarias (Gesprotur), a public entity attached to the Tourism Department. The project covers the architectural, technical, and museographic definition for the adaptation of the buildings and exhibition contents, seeking to create an attractive and accessible space that disseminates the historical, cultural, and agricultural heritage of Agaete coffee.
The tender for the project drafting includes architecture, engineering to update facilities (electrical, lighting, telecommunications, fire protection, air conditioning, plumbing, and sanitation), and musealization, with an initial budget of 30,598.14 euros. The drafting work has a three-month deadline from its award and will serve as the basis for estimating the total investment needed for renovation and reopening.
In parallel, the Agaete Town Council has organized a "collective coffee harvesting experience on the farm" for May 15, 16, and 23. This initiative, framed within the ‘Café de Mujer’ brand and the Umbrella Project supported by Aider Gran Canaria, seeks to highlight the fundamental role of women in the sector, who will act as mentors. The activity, free and with limited places for up to 30 participants, will combine technical knowledge and traditional wisdom, culminating in a tasting of local coffee and products.
These actions aim to revitalize the rural environment, promote local products, and preserve traditional agricultural practices, strengthening the link between cultivation, territory, and the identity of Agaete.
