The festivities in honor of co-patron saint San Roque, whose main day was last Sunday, continue throughout the week until Sunday, August 23rd. This year, Custodia Sánchez, a neighborhood resident, has been chosen to deliver the Charla de San Roque (San Roque Talk) this Friday, August 21st, at the Ermita (Hermitage), at 7:00 PM. This event is a tribute to recognize her personal trajectory, closely linked to a way of inhabiting the neighborhood and keeping alive a collective memory made of shared names, places, and affections.
From her early years, Custodia Sánchez's life has been closely tied to the San Roque area, a neighborhood that forms an essential part of her memory, her affections, and her understanding of coexistence. Her life has unfolded in the daily sphere of home, family, closeness with the neighborhood's children, and discreet attention to others.
Her connection with San Roque has been a continuous presence, built on day-to-day life, coexistence, and the shared memory of its residents. For Custodia, San Roque has always been a deeply familiar place, with its streets, its square, its festivities, and its neighbors, a life experience marked by simplicity, hospitality, and neighborly bonds. Her devotion to San Roque - her “San Roquito” - and to the Virgen de Guía also holds a special place in this relationship.
