The Gáldar City Council has given preliminary approval to a minor modification of the General Urban Planning Plan that will allow for the regularization of housing and urban development in the Los Lomos settlements, located between El Cabuco and the ascent to El Agujero. The approval, passed unanimously during the ordinary plenary session, aims to resolve urban planning issues that have persisted since 2007.
Urban Planning Councilor Heriberto Reyes explained that the modification corrects street alignments and widths, eliminating the mandatory front setback that prevented construction on many plots. The objective is for the document to be in effect before the summer of next year, following a public exhibition period for contributions.
In the same session, the Corporation unanimously approved an institutional motion urging the Government of the Canary Islands to take urgent measures to address the saturation of hospital emergency services. The PSOE spokesperson, Francisco Hernández, expressed concern about the situation and advocated for reinforcing staff and healthcare capacity.
Mayor Teodoro Sosa pointed out that part of the saturation problem is due to beds occupied by individuals requiring socio-sanitary rather than medical attention, and criticized the lack of family involvement. He also advocated for the San Roque hospital in Guía to become a regional socio-sanitary hospital.
Sosa also warned the State that if the labor situation at the Social Security office in Gáldar does not improve by September, he will join residents in protesting outside the office, which is operating with minimal staff. The face-to-face service at this regional office affects the population from La Aldea to Moya.
Furthermore, a motion was approved to strengthen actions against invasive snakes in the municipality, a species that threatens endemic fauna. The Councilor for the Environment, Ulises Miranda, detailed that nine people are employed in eradication efforts in the Gáldar area.
Additionally, information was provided on the signing of an addendum to the agreement for managing electric vehicle charging stations and the communication of an agreement with the Ministry of Health, which provides an annual contribution of 780,000 euros for a regional care center.
Finally, the corporation sent a message of support to the people of Venezuela.
