The festival, inspired by the ancestral ‘Harvest Festival’, will feature a diverse program combining culture, reflection, tradition, and dissemination. This year, the La Guancha Interpretation Center joins as a new venue, hosting ‘Beñesmer Chinijo’, an initiative aimed at children and families.
Mr. Leacock Square will host the majority of activities on Saturday, August 8th, with a program for all audiences focusing on scientific dissemination and Canarian culture.
The opening will take place on Thursday, August 6th, at 8:00 PM in the La Guancha Interpretation Center with the talk ‘What is Beñesmer?’ by researcher Rumén Sosa, followed by a performance by Generación del 21.
On Friday, August 7th, the program begins at 7:00 PM with the screening of the short film ‘Pervivencia’. Subsequently, the podcast ‘Solo Palique de Beñesmer’ will be broadcast with special guests, and the day will conclude with a visit to the La Guancha Interpretation Center and an astronomical activity (advance registration required).
Saturday, August 8th, will be the most intense day. It will include a Craft Fair in Mr. Leacock Square, guided tours of the Bocabarranco and El Agujero archaeological sites, and the Canarian Ball workshop. The books ‘Había una vez un isleño’ and ‘No me quejo’ by writer Teresa Gubern will be presented, along with the Tagoror 15’ discussion on colonialism.
In the afternoon, guided tours will continue, along with workshops such as ‘Hoy les vengo a contar la historia’ and Amazigh writing with Rumén Sosa. There will be stick fighting workshops, storytelling ‘YuPa Fantasy: YuPaventuras’, and presentations by Teresa Gubern.
The afternoon program also includes ‘Encuentros lanares con los orígenes’ (Wool Encounters with Origins) with weaver Fabiola Santana Pérez, a workshop on ‘Painting with Natural Pigments’ by Saray (Mujer Caracol), and a performance by the collective Tambor de Cabra.
The festival will close with the presentation of ‘Llevo mar’ by Teresa Gubern alongside humorist David García, and a concert by Canarian artist Raquel Molina.
The ‘Beñesmer Chinijo’ space at the La Guancha Interpretation Center will offer activities for children, including ‘Encuentros lanares’, ‘YuPa Fantasy’ storytelling, and the Natural Pigments Painting workshop.
