The municipality of Gáldar is preparing to commemorate Canary Islands Day with the 'Voces de la tradición' show, a free event that will take place on May 16 in Santiago Square, aiming to enhance the archipelago's culture and folklore.

This cultural event, scheduled to start at 9:00 PM, will gather important exponents of Canarian popular music. Participants include a renowned singer, a former director of an emblematic folk group, and a member of a well-known musical ensemble, all performing under the direction of a Latin Grammy-nominated music producer.

"Gáldar is a city whose historical roots are deeply embedded in the origin of Canarian tradition and identity, so we could not celebrate Canary Islands month in any other way than by valuing 'canariedad' and enjoying the representation of some of the most beloved festivities of our islands."

The show will not only feature musical performances but will also include interactive festive elements, such as the presence of the Caballitos de Fuego from the Santiago de Gáldar Festivities and the participation of the local group 'Surco y Arado'. Additionally, other artists such as a singer-songwriter from La Gomera, a timple player, an accordionist, and several soloists will join, along with groups of whistles and drums from El Hierro and a collective of chácaras and drums from La Gomera.
The two-hour evening will offer a journey through Canarian popular music with themes like «Ach Guañach» or «En Busca de Valentina», accompanied by dance, drum rhythms, and the magic of chácaras. The event, which has already achieved success on other islands such as Lanzarote and Tenerife, is organized by the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development, and the Department of Culture and Festivities of the Gáldar City Council.
