The incident occurred in the early morning when the woman, after her water broke at home, went to the Agaete health center. After being assessed by the on-duty doctor and nurse, it was determined that labor was imminent.
The SUC's healthcare coordinator was contacted. Anticipating that the birth might occur before reaching the hospital, a specialized ambulance was dispatched to meet the basic life support ambulance that was already transporting the expectant mother and her partner.
Near Tinoca, the woman began labor. Following the healthcare coordinator's instructions, both vehicles stopped at a nearby gas station to safely attend the delivery.
The birth was successfully completed inside the basic life support ambulance, with the assistance of two doctors, two nurses, emergency technicians, and the newborn's father.
The mother and the newborn daughter, named Carmen, were subsequently transferred by the specialized SUC ambulance to the Canary University Hospital Materno Infantil for evaluation.
