The San Pedro festivities in the Agaete Valley have officially commenced with an opening speech and a heartfelt tribute to Juana Jesús Sosa García, a resident celebrated for her commitment and resilience.

The Agaete Valley has welcomed its San Pedro festivities with the traditional opening speech, delivered this year by graphic design professor Juan Gabriel Cruz Rosario. The event was introduced by resident Águeda Rosario Sosa, marking the formal start of the celebrations.
However, the festivities actually began in late May, inaugurated by Juana Jesús Sosa García. She was honored for her dedication to the festivals and to this emblematic enclave in the northwest of Gran Canaria. Sosa, who was widowed young and raised a large family through great effort, was supported by her loved ones and numerous neighbors in an emotional ceremony.
The mayor of Agaete, María del Carmen Rosario, praised Juana Jesús's decades-long contribution to the festivities, highlighting her courage as an example for the municipality. Sosa, visibly moved, expressed gratitude for the tribute and joy in sharing it with her family, whom she described as the most important thing in her life.
The tribute featured the participation of the Agrupación Musical Guayedra, whose street parade added to the day's atmosphere. The iconic melody of 'La Rama' was played, inviting attendees to dance and anticipating a summer full of events in Agaete.
