The municipality of Moya, in Gran Canaria, will be the setting for a test of the ES-Alert system next Wednesday, April 29, where the population will receive a simulated forest fire emergency message.

During this drill, citizens will receive a notification on their mobile phones. In this situation, 112 Canarias has issued a series of specific recommendations for drivers, in order to ensure road safety.

"Maintain calm and avoid maneuvers that endanger road safety."

Among the key instructions, sudden braking and abrupt lane changes are discouraged. Drivers are urged to stop their vehicle in a safe place, whenever possible, to calmly read the message and press the 'accept' button, which will deactivate the alert.
The ES-Alert system, part of the National Civil Protection System, has been tested in the Canary Islands since 2023 and has already been used in real emergencies, such as the forest fires that affected La Palma and Tenerife that same year. Its main objective is to protect the population by sending early warnings and self-protection instructions.
