The incident occurred on Sunday morning as the vehicle was traveling on a road in the municipality of Gáldar. The car left the roadway and fell about 30 meters down a ravine, resulting in a fire.
Firefighters from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, who were initially dispatched to assist in the rescue, had to extinguish the flames from the vehicle. The fire spread and affected approximately 600 square meters of cane fields, according to the Emergency and Safety Coordination Center (112).
Personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) confirmed the driver's death, noting injuries incompatible with life. The Canary Islands Archipelago Emergency and Rescue Group was also mobilized.
The incident took place around half-past nine in the morning in the Fagajesto mountain area. Local Police and Civil Guard officers attended the scene to conduct the relevant investigations.
