The town of Agaete, in Gran Canaria, is preparing for a demonstration on Monday, May 18, called by residents and merchants, in response to an alarming wave of robberies that has generated a deep sense of insecurity in the community.

The situation has escalated following the testimony of a local businessman, owner of a restaurant, who reported being the victim of two assaults on his establishment on the same night. The thieves stole between 200 and 300 euros in cash, first from the till and then from employee tips, within a span of less than four hours.
This incident has led the businessman to reinforce his business's security measures and to change closing times, moving them forward by several hours. The concern for personal safety is such that he has expressed his preference for suffering a robbery rather than confronting the assailants inside his premises.

"I honestly prefer that they break in and steal rather than finding me inside and either me or them escalating the situation."

Adding to the tension caused by the robberies are threats that the businessman claims to have received from people who habitually ask for money in the area. Although he cannot confirm it, he suspects that these threats could be related to the assaults he suffered.
The demonstration, scheduled for Monday, May 18, at 12:30 PM, seeks to demand greater protection from the authorities for businesses and residents. Despite having reported the incidents, the businessman laments the slow pace of the investigation and the lack of contact from local police or the town hall, which has forced him to incur additional expenses to improve his establishment's security.
