The island corporation has approved the file for the tender of this significant project, which aims to optimize one of the island's main high-capacity roads. The initiative, proposed by the Department of Public Works, complements other ongoing actions, such as a similar contract on the GC-3 valued at 18 million euros.
The works on the GC-2 will span approximately 24 kilometers, connecting Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with the north of the island and passing through key municipalities such as Arucas, Moya, Santa María de Guía, and Gáldar. For more efficient execution, the project has been divided into two lots.
The first lot, with an investment of 8,882,258 euros, covers from the northern exit of the Julio Luengo tunnel in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to the Cardones interchange in Arucas. The second lot, endowed with 7,663,500 euros, will continue from this point to the entrance of Gáldar, near the Los Tres Ojos bridge.
The works will include milling and complete resurfacing of the road, installation of new horizontal signage, improvement of beaconing, and replacement of safety barriers. Additionally, structural interventions will be carried out, such as slope stabilization, repair of retaining walls and parapets of some viaducts, and improvement of existing walkways over the road. The estimated execution period, once the contract is awarded, will be 21 months.
