Canarian Wines Triumph at Bacchus 2026 International Competition with Multiple Medals

Fourteen island wines, including a Grand Gold for a Lanzarote vintage, have been recognized at the prestigious event held in Madrid.

Fourteen wines from the Canary Islands have been honored at the 24th edition of the Bacchus 2026 International Wine, Vermouth, and Spirits Competition, held in Madrid, solidifying the reputation of local viticulture.

Among the accolades, a wine from Bodegas Timanfaya S.L. (DOP Lanzarote), the Timanfaya Malvasía Dulce Natural 2018, received the highest honor, a Grand Gold. This prestigious competition, organized by the Spanish Union of Tasters (UEC), took place between March 24 and 26.
The list of Gold medals includes five productions from DOP El Hierro: Mirador de Adra - 7 Marías blanco 2025, Elysar Baboso negro tinto 2024, and three wines from the Sociedad Cooperativa del Campo Frontera: Viña Frontera “Louis Goudard” blanco 2024, Viña Frontera “Baboso Tinto” 2022, and Viña Frontera “Varietales Tintos” 2022.
Other wines that received Gold medals were 4 Lías blanco 2023 from Bodegas El Lomo (DOP Canary Islands), Montoro blanco barrica 2024 from Mario Rodríguez Mendoza (DOP La Gomera), Vega Norte blanco Albillo Criollo 2025 from SAT Bodegas Noroeste de La Palma (DOP La Palma), Princesa Fayna espumoso 2019 from Bodegas Vega de Yuco (DOP Lanzarote), and Flor de Chasna Blanco Naturalmente Dulce 2023 from the Sociedad Cooperativa Cumbres de Abona (DOP Abona).

The head of the department also emphasized that Canarian viticulture, characterized by its extreme conditions and distinct identity, has become a strategic pillar for economic diversification, population retention in rural areas, and the international projection of the Canary Islands as a producer of high-quality products.
The jury for this international competition was composed of experts such as journalists, sommeliers, enologists, Masters of Wine, and Masters of Sommelier, who evaluated the quality of 1,540 participating wine, vermouth, and spirits labels.
