Nationalists in the Majorera capital have expressed their opposition to the relocation of the El Charco power plant, a measure that, according to them, merely shifts the problem to other neighborhoods in Puerto del Rosario. This stance is particularly directed at the Popular Party, a government partner in the Government of the Canary Islands, and a specific councilor.
From AM-CC, this decision is considered an unacceptable energy imposition by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Canary Islands Government's Ministry of Ecological Transition. They argue that the consensus of Majorera institutions, which advocate for the dismantling of the plant and its relocation to Zurita, is being ignored.
“"What they are doing is moving a problem, not solving it. They are taking the plant out of El Charco to put it in other neighborhoods of Puerto del Rosario."
The nationalist party directly accuses a councilor and a senator for Fuerteventura of not defending the municipality's interests, allowing a model to be imposed that transfers the problem from El Charco to other areas, especially the upper part of the Fabelo neighborhood.
They recall that both the City Council and the Cabildo have repeatedly advocated for a clear solution: centralizing energy implementation in Zurita, specifically in Los Llanos Pelados, where there is public land, urban planning, and institutional consensus. This alternative has been communicated to both the Government of the Canary Islands and the Ministry.
However, they denounce that the state competitive bidding process and decisions linked to the energy emergency are opening the door to the implementation of new infrastructures in the La Herradura area, where business projects and facilities are already being developed. The party accuses the Ministry for Ecological Transition of leading this process "behind Fuerteventura's back" and the councilor of being a "necessary accomplice" by not defending the agreed-upon criteria on the island.
