The Department of Transport of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura has initiated the tender process for the acquisition of twelve new bus shelters, with an allocated budget of 137,298 euros. These new infrastructures will be installed in various locations on the island, including Morro Jable, Tarajalejo, El Cuchillete, Valles de Ortega, and Puerto del Rosario.
The purchase of these shelters is part of a broader plan that includes the improvement of over 250 infrastructures within the island's transport network. This plan is being executed in coordination with the Works and Machinery service and involves significant interventions at key stops such as Corralejo (La Oliva), El Castillo (Antigua), and Tarajalejo (Tuineje). Additionally, lighting will be installed at more than thirty existing stops.
The primary objective of this tender is to provide greater comfort and safety for users of the island's public transport. Companies interested in participating in the tender process have until August 19 to submit their proposals. All detailed information is available on the electronic headquarters of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura.
According to the Minister of Transport, Luis González, the use of public transport on the island has seen unprecedented growth, reaching a 54% year-on-year increase. González emphasized the need to complement this trend with improvements in both operations and the infrastructures distributed throughout Fuerteventura to ensure adequate facilities.
Among recent improvements, the inauguration of a new interurban public transport stop in the Nuevo Horizonte industrial park, in the municipality of Antigua, stands out. This action addresses a long-standing demand from workers in the area, who until July 14 lacked a stop within the industrial park itself, making access to public transport difficult in this significant commercial area.
