The situation at La Garita beach has caused considerable unease among Arrieta residents, who report that the spa facilities have been without running water for over eighteen months. This deficiency, coupled with a general lack of maintenance, has led to unsanitary conditions affecting both the public restrooms and the beach environment.
In addition to the absence of water, residents point out a fallen metal plate that has remained unaddressed for over a year, despite repeated notifications to the Haría Town Council. Local users claim that, despite their attempts to communicate with the council, no measures have been taken to improve the situation, creating an environment they deem unhealthy and dangerous for visitors.
“"This situation would not pass a health inspection."
Frustration is evident among residents, who feel ignored by local authorities. The lack of cleanliness and the deterioration of fixtures in the restrooms, along with the cut-off water supply, are major concerns. Some are already considering escalating their complaint to Public Health if conditions do not improve soon.
Residents urge the Haría Town Council to act urgently to carry out necessary repairs and improvements. They demand that the spa receive proper maintenance so that both locals and tourists can enjoy a beach in optimal conditions, thereby ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone in one of northern Lanzarote's most frequented bathing areas.
The deterioration of the spa is not the only concern. Residents also criticize that the wooden walkway, located next to the foot-washing shower (which is also out of order) at the main beach access, ends in a rocky area. This situation, caused by marine erosion and municipal inaction, makes access difficult for people with reduced mobility.
