Socialist parliamentarian and PSOE spokesperson in the Teguise City Council, Marcos Bergaz, has expressed his expectation that the Canary Islands Government's Ministry of Education will fulfill its announced commitment to begin contracting the works for the new Compulsory Education Center (CEO) in Costa Teguise during the last quarter of 2026.
This calendar forecast was confirmed by the Minister of Education, Poli Suárez, in a written response on July 29, following a meeting held in June to discuss various issues concerning the municipality of Teguise. The tender will be processed through advance processing, although final award will be subject to the availability of adequate and sufficient credit in the budget.
Bergaz lamented the rejection of an amendment presented to the 2026 regional budgets by the socialist group to guarantee funding. "The opportunity was missed then; now we will be vigilant to ensure funding is secured and the works can be awarded," stated the regional deputy.
The technical project for the future educational center, initiated during the previous legislature under the responsibility of then-Minister Manuela Armas, has already completed its drafting and supervision phases. The new CEO in Costa Teguise is designed to accommodate 30 educational units, including classrooms for Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary Education, as well as a library, school garden, specific classrooms, an Enclave classroom, sports facilities, recreation areas, landscaped spaces, and shaded zones.
The town of Costa Teguise, which already exceeds 9,000 residents, will benefit from this new center, which will alleviate the strain on the existing CEIP and IES schools in the area. The estimated investment for its construction amounts to approximately 10,150,715 euros.
