The connection between urban artist Quevedo and NBA basketball player Santi Aldama, both born in 2001, dates back to their shared childhood in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This friendship was solidified during the summers they spent with their families in La Graciosa, the eighth Canary Island, a place that became a key point in their upbringing.
In those years, far from public notoriety, the two young men enjoyed the tranquility and natural environment of the island. They ran and played along the sandy streets of Caleta del Sebo, strengthening a relationship that has endured despite their professional paths leading them to different international success stories.
Quevedo's connection to La Graciosa is not only personal but has also influenced his musical career. His most recent album, El Baifo, includes a track titled La Graciosa, featuring a collaboration with Puerto Rican artist Elvis Crespo. The music video for this song was filmed on the island last March, with residents of Caleta del Sebo and members of the Peña de la Amistad participating as extras, showcasing landscapes such as El Salao beach and the surroundings of Las Conchas and Lambra.
The friendship between Quevedo and Aldama has been publicly displayed on several occasions. In 2023, during his appearance on the program La Resistencia, Quevedo mentioned his basketball player friend, creating a lighthearted moment about Aldama's playing position. Furthermore, the singer has shown his support for Aldama's career by wearing his jersey at concerts, while the basketball player has tried to introduce Quevedo's music into his team's locker room, the Memphis Grizzlies.
Both represent a generation of young Canarians who have achieved international recognition without losing their connection to their homeland. La Graciosa symbolizes not only a meeting place in their childhood but also an emotional reference that continues to influence their identity and respective careers.
