The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has announced a significant enhancement to its island bus service, adding 173 weekly frequencies and 18 new drivers to improve connections in the south of the island.

Routes 3 (Puerto del Rosario-Las Salinas), 16 (Gran Tarajal-Puerto del Rosario, via Antigua), and 5 (Morro Jable-Costa Calma, via hotels) will benefit, with an increase of 10,400 weekly route kilometers covered. The reinforcements are concentrated on weekends, aiming to meet the growing demand, which has risen by 54% year-on-year.
Among the new features are an Express line operated with electric buses between the Airport and Caleta de Fuste, the decongestion of the main stop in Gran Tarajal, and two additional services on line 12 between Las Playitas and Gran Tarajal.

"From the island Corporation, we are working to improve Fuerteventura's public transport system. It was essential to reinforce those lines that register higher demand, improving connections and offering more alternatives to those who use the bus to get to their jobs, studies, or for their daily travel."

Lola García · President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura
The Minister of Transport, Luis González, highlighted the "unprecedented" increase in public transport usage, which has seen a 54% year-on-year rise. "We will continue improving operations for the benefit of users and with schedules that best respond to the reality of the Majoreros (Fuerteventura residents)," he stated.
Route 3 will see its service increased by 48.5% on Saturdays and 27.7% on Sundays, in addition to the new electric line. Route 16 will go from 127 to 183 weekly frequencies, doubling its Saturday service. Route 5, the one with the most growth, will increase its weekly frequencies by 62% to 220, coordinating schedules to facilitate travel for tourism sector workers.
These improvements, which involve the hiring of 18 new drivers, will represent an increase of over 10,000 weekly service kilometers. Route 12 also adds two new services to meet the demand of students and workers.
