The Alajeró Town Council has launched a project to supplement public lighting on the maritime avenue of Playa de Santiago, covering the area from Barranco de Santiago to Cafetería Casanova, with an investment exceeding 40,000 euros.

This initiative aims to improve visibility in a section of the avenue that, until now, had insufficient lighting, despite being a high-traffic area for both residents and visitors to Jardín Tecina, one of the region's main tourist establishments. The project is financially supported by the General Directorate of Commerce and Consumption of the Government of Canarias, which provides a subsidy for complementary equipment and actions to develop Open Commercial Zones.
With this intervention, the Council completes the lighting installation along its entire maritime avenue. This road extends from the edge of the ravine, which marks the municipal boundary with San Sebastián de La Gomera, to the port of Playa de Santiago.
It is worth noting that this maritime avenue was previously subject to a comprehensive remodeling, which significantly transformed the coastal front of this area of the municipality of Alajeró. Other improvements have subsequently been added to this initial public work, such as the renovation of access to the characteristic alleys and the creation of the extensive parking area of El Cerco. In El Cerco, future plans include green areas, an underground car park, common spaces, and greater accessibility to services, establishing it as a complementary area to the beach and coastline of this part of La Gomera.
