The Agrupación Socialista Gomera (ASG) parliamentary group will present two crucial initiatives at the next plenary session of the Canarian Parliament: the installation of a helicopter base in Alajeró for the EIRIF and ensuring stability in the advance payments of the autonomous financing system.

The parliamentary spokesperson for ASG, Casimiro Curbelo, will urge the Government of the Canary Islands to ensure an effective and predictable update of the advance payments for the autonomous financing system. This aspect is vital for sustaining essential public services such as healthcare, education, and social policies, which account for almost three-quarters of the community's non-financial income.

"The debate should not focus solely on quantities, but also on the security and predictability with which resources arrive."

Curbelo will emphasize that delays and uncertainties in this matter have created planning difficulties for the regional government, island councils, and municipalities, especially in non-capital islands, where the additional costs derived from double insularity increase pressure on public services. Social and territorial cohesion directly depends on the timely availability of sufficient resources.
In the same plenary session, Casimiro Curbelo will inquire with the Minister of Ecological Transition and Energy about the progress made in the permanent implementation of the helicopter base in the municipality of Alajeró. This infrastructure is considered strategic to strengthen prevention and rapid intervention against forest fires in La Gomera.
The project, initiated in the previous legislature, already has the technical document drafted, although it is awaiting authorization from AENA. The geography of La Gomera demands permanent and nearby resources to act quickly in forest emergencies, as the first few minutes are decisive in controlling an outbreak.

"In fires, the first minutes are decisive, and reducing response times can make the difference between a controlled outbreak and a situation of serious risk."

The future base will not only be an operational facility but also a civil protection and security tool for the entire island, crucial given the increase in extreme weather phenomena and the high environmental value of the Gomera territory. Having this infrastructure in southern La Gomera will optimize the coordination of firefighting resources and improve response capabilities.
Both initiatives, emergency prevention and autonomous funding, share the goal of guaranteeing equal opportunities, security, and quality of life across all islands, especially those facing greater structural difficulties like La Gomera.
