The Alajeró Town Council has called for a public demonstration on Thursday, April 16, at 6:00 PM, to protest the prolonged delays and unsafe conditions of the GM-3 road construction.
The mobilization aims to highlight collective discontent over a situation that has persisted since 2021, affecting one of La Gomera's most crucial routes. This road, linking La Gomera Airport to Paredes, provides access to various neighborhoods and the municipal center of Alajeró, and connects to the Playa de Santiago region.
The prolonged delay in completing the works not only causes inconvenience but also increases road safety risks. The protest seeks to pressure the Regional Executive, particularly the Department of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility, to implement immediate necessary measures.
The Mayor of Alajeró, Manuel Ramón Plasencia, has urged residents from the municipality and the rest of the island, along with various groups, public institutions, and political parties, to join the protest. The objective is to register the widespread dissatisfaction and demand the effective resumption and acceleration of work on all pending sections, which, if not expedited, could extend completion until 2027 or beyond.
