The town council of San Sebastián de La Gomera, in an ordinary session held last Thursday, July 2nd, gave the green light to the transfer of a municipal property to the Canary Islands Autonomous Police. The decision was supported by the governing party and the socialist party, with the Mixed Group abstaining.
Mayor Angélica Padilla emphasized the "urgent need" for this transfer to guarantee the constant presence of the Canary Islands Police in La Gomera. She explained that while the main headquarters is in San Sebastián, the Canary Islands Police's responsibilities will be island-wide, complementing the work of local police forces across the island. Concurrently, efforts are underway to fill vacant local police positions using the unified list compiled by the Government of the Canary Islands.
Padilla highlighted the coordination between the La Gomera Island Council (Cabildo) and the island's town councils to enhance citizen security and public order. The property transfer addresses the difficulties some municipalities have faced in securing adequate facilities and will not incur additional costs for the municipal treasury, providing agents with dignified premises until a permanent headquarters is established.
During the same plenary session, the Economic-Financial Plan (PEF) 2026-2027 was unanimously approved. Given the Town Council's solid financial standing and lack of debt, this plan will enable investments exceeding 800,000 euros, funded by the surplus from the 2024 fiscal year.
Furthermore, the council unanimously approved the Town Council's adhesion to the island-wide energy community focused on solar photovoltaic energy, proposed by the socialist party. The definitive approval was also given to the Regulation governing parking at the Municipal Audillón, a rule that will also apply to future rotational parking facilities with time limits.
