The Vice-Minister of Social Welfare, Francisco Candil, accompanied the participants on the walk, which took place as part of the Gen Match program of the Government of the Canary Islands. Candil highlighted the importance of intergenerationality as a fundamental and transversal value in all actions organized by the institution.
The activity, held at the Finca de Osorio in Teror, aimed to foster connection and dialogue between different generations. Both young people and seniors participating highlighted the positivity of the meeting, the opportunity for mutual learning, and the creation of new relationships.
The senior participants emphasized how young people bring them "something more current" and "inspire them," while the young people noted that the encounter is positive for seniors to feel accompanied and listened to, beyond help with new technologies.
The circular walk, designed to be accessible and adaptable to the group's pace, allowed participants to interact in rotating pairs. They discussed topics such as their first jobs, studies, childhood aspirations, leisure activities, the evolution of relationships and communication over time.
The day concluded with group dynamics, a space for anonymous questions, lunch, and shared reflections, consolidating the objective of combating loneliness and creating new intergenerational bonds.
