This initiative is part of the municipal strategy to implement the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS) and has the support of the Government of the Canary Islands. The contract, valued at 30,000 euros, will be used to prepare the necessary technical documents for future works estimated at 1.6 million euros. The main objective is to increase road safety, ensure universal accessibility, and facilitate walking in various areas of the municipality.
The first project will focus on a section of approximately 1,682 meters of the GC-100, between kilometer points 17+920 and 19+737, connecting the neighborhoods of Cercado Grande, El Valle, and Lomo Juan. The estimated investment for this action amounts to 1.4 million euros.
The second project will address a shorter pedestrian connection, 110 meters long, between La Longuera, El Carrión, and El Mondragón, on the section of the road between kilometer points 20+690 and 20+800. An approximate investment of 200,000 euros is planned for this intervention.
Future works will include the renovation of pavements, improvement of the public lighting system, adaptation of accessible routes, updating of service networks, and the installation of urban furniture and specific signage to promote pedestrian traffic and physical activity.
With these actions, the council takes a step forward in the project announced at the beginning of the year, after receiving regional funding to promote sustainable mobility. The aim is to improve the well-known "cholesterol avenue," a route highly valued by residents for walking, while simultaneously creating safer, more inclusive, and attractive urban environments for everyone.
