The traditional lacework from Ingenio has crossed borders, being presented at the prestigious ‘Madrid es Moda’ fashion show, held at the Reina Sofía Museum. The Association of Lacemakers of the Villa de Ingenio (ACVI) was the focus of this event, which had the support of FEDAC (Fund for Ethnography and the Development of Canarian Crafts), the Ingenio City Council, and its Crafts Department.
Ingenio's lacework was integrated into the '80' collection of the renowned fashion house Devota & Lomba. This collection, celebrating four decades of the brand, reinterprets its language through experience and craftsmanship. The collection's designs feature dresses that fold in on themselves, creating contained volumes and shapes that combine structure and movement through ruffles and pleats. The pieces incorporate lacework created by the ACVI, using historical techniques of thread-drawing and shape reconstruction on linen, thus bringing the value of handmade work, time, and precision to haute couture.
Catalina Sánchez, the Councilor for Crafts, emphasized that this collaborative project with Devota&Lomba goes beyond a simple fashion show. According to the councilor, it is the culmination of a project initiated last October, driven by the financial support and synergies of FEDAC and Moda Cálida. Following a meeting with designer Modesto Lomba at the Mostra do Encaixe de Camariñas, and after several meetings, feasibility studies, and visits, Ingenio's lacework has established itself in the world of haute couture.
Lacemakers Adela Hernández and Pino Ramírez attended as representatives of the ACVI. Adela Hernández described the experience as "unique" and expressed her pride in the association's work, praising the designer, the show, the venue, and the support received. "We have received many congratulations," she added emotionally, concluding that it has been "a great year for the lacemakers and for the town," whose goal is "for Ingenio to be well represented."
