The award-winning image, by Hernández Ortiz, a native of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, captures the agile movement of a dancer from Puerto Rico's Gíbaro group during the festival's closing performance. The event took place at the Parque Néstor Álamo in the center of Ingenio on July 25th.
Hernández Ortiz, who also won the award in the previous edition, explained that his photograph symbolizes the moment when cultural borders cease to be a barrier and become a point of union. According to the author, the image reflects how the festival brings together people from different backgrounds who, through music, dance, art, or coexistence, find a common language based on respect and the celebration of diversity.
The contest jury included Francisco Agustín Cruz Manzano, director of the Ingenio Production Center of Este Canal Televisión, and Iván Falcón Martín, designer and infographic technician at Este Canal Televisión. Francisco Díaz Hernández served as secretary.
A total of fifteen entries from five different authors were submitted to this twelfth edition. The images were captured during the various activities scheduled for the 31st edition of the festival, promoted by the Cultural Association Coros y Danzas de Ingenio.
The competition required photographs to be taken during the festival, aiming for participants to capture its essence, which promotes preserving the identity of peoples, cultural exchange, ethnography, tolerance, solidarity, and commitment to traditions.
