The El Cine Cultural Center in Sardina del Sur will host this symposium, held under the slogan “The community cares for us: transforming from the local level”. The gathering will bring together representatives from public administrations, universities, sector professionals, social organizations, and citizens to discuss how to tackle challenges such as population aging, unwanted loneliness, cultural diversity, emotional well-being, and new vulnerabilities through people-centered community responses.
This initiative is promoted by the Observatory of Social and Community Innovation (OISCO), within the framework of the Santa Lucía Te Cuida project. This project is jointly promoted by the Department of Social and Community Care, Childhood and Family of the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Throughout the two days of the symposium, experiences, methodologies, and best practices will be shared in key areas such as public care policies, community intervention, strengthening of Social Services, interculturality, citizen participation, and service-learning. The objective is to produce a manifesto containing concrete proposals to promote municipalities that prioritize care in their public actions.
The event will also serve to pay tribute to the legacy of Marco Marchioni, a prominent figure in community development in Spain, recognized for his contribution to promoting participatory and transformative models in various territories.
