The event marks a significant step in the municipal plan to bolster the police force, which is projected to reach 33 officers next year. Officers Tamara López, José Antonio Expósito, and Martín Cabrera assume their new roles after successfully completing an internal promotion process. They must now complete an approximately 1,100-hour practical training period before their permanent appointment.

The ceremony was presided over by the mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, accompanied by the Councilor for Citizen Security and Human Resources, Efraín González; the head of the Local Police, Luisa González; and the municipal secretary, Antonio Patiño. The event also saw the presence of the officers' families and council staff.

The mayor announced the City Council's intention to continue expanding the force. Fourteen new officers will join the six positions already planned, filling recent vacancies and completing ongoing selection processes. With this expansion, the municipality aims to have 33 officers, meeting the target of one police officer per 1,000 inhabitants, which is expected to enhance operational capacity and citizen attention to security matters.

This intake of new commanders aligns with the council's commitment to continuous training. The importance of updating police knowledge and techniques for service improvement was highlighted. In this regard, officer Ezequiel García recently participated in a university course on 'Expert in Police and Military Grappling,' focused on the professional use of force in interventions.
