These two fairs, promoted by the Mancomunidad del Sureste de Gran Canaria, aim to highlight proximity products, the primary sector's activity, and innovative solutions in renewable energies. Both events will be open to the public from 09:00 to 14:00.
The opening ceremony was attended by authorities including the President of the Mancomunidad and mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández; the President of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales; the second vice-president of the Cabildo and mayor of Gáldar, Teodoro Sosa; the first vice-president and mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García; and the second vice-president and mayoress of Ingenio, Vanesa Martín, among other personalities.
The Km.0 Fair returns to Ingenio with 45 producers distributed across 25 categories, offering a wide range of the island's agri-food products, such as fruits, vegetables, cheeses, honey, wines, bread, pastries, oil, coffee, and beer, thus promoting a proximity economy.
For its part, the Sun Fair focuses on renewable energies and sustainable transport, showcasing specialized companies with solutions for a cleaner and more efficient energy model, and bringing technological innovation closer to citizens.
Antonio Morales, president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, emphasized the importance of strengthening the primary sector and reducing external dependence, encouraging local consumption and addressing challenges such as energy transition and water security to build a more sustainable island.
Óscar Hernández, president of the Mancomunidad, highlighted that the fairs align with the Sustainable Development Plan of the Mancomunidad del Sureste, supporting kilometer zero products, green energies, and population retention, while reaffirming commitment to traditions and sustainability.
The organization is supported by the Department of Economic Development of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria, Gran Canaria Me Gusta, Turismo de Gran Canaria, Cajasiete, and Gran Canaria Mosaico.
The joint celebration of both events transforms the Plaza de la Candelaria into a meeting point, showcasing the potential of Gran Canaria, particularly the southeastern region, as a driver for development that is respectful of the territory and the environment.
