The blaze, which started on Thursday morning, has also impacted some huts and shacks in the vicinity. The Island Council (Cabildo) stated on social media that the primary goal of the firefighting teams is to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading up the hillside.
Firefighting efforts are being bolstered by three additional aircraft, bringing the total aerial support to five: two helicopters from the Cabildo, one from the Government of the Canary Islands, and two from the Ministry for Ecological Transition. On the ground, around 60 operators from the Gran Canaria Cabildo are working alongside approximately 20 personnel from various security forces and Civil Protection units.
This marks the second fire reported in Gran Canaria today. The first, which was quickly brought under control, occurred around 10:00 AM in El Saucillo, within the municipality of Gáldar.
The island is currently under a fire risk alert issued by the Government of the Canary Islands and a yellow warning from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) due to high temperatures.
