The Gran Canaria Council has announced the deployment of drones to monitor compliance with transit regulations in the Maspalomas Dunes, strengthening the conservation of the natural area.

This initiative aims to complement existing surveillance systems and the recently installed information loudspeakers. The primary goal is to ensure that both residents and tourists adhere to designated paths, preventing the indiscriminate transit that impacted this natural site in previous years.
Currently, the monitoring team includes eight Environment agents, supported by the Local Police, the Canarian Police, and the Civil Guard. According to the island institution, public awareness has significantly improved, although a minority still ignores the signage.

"We are providing continuous information about the values of this space, something that had never been done before."

Antonio Morales · President of the Gran Canaria Council
Authorities have highlighted the cooperation of local tourism companies, which inform their guests about the importance of preserving this heritage. The use of new technologies, such as drones, will allow for better monitoring and the enforcement of penalties for those who violate the established rules.
