Florita's House, which suffered an illegal partial demolition in 2001 by a private developer, is once again at the center of Mogán's municipal agenda. The NC group, from the opposition, will bring a motion to the April plenary session to initiate the restoration procedures for the property and for the approval of a Municipal Catalog of Cultural Heritage Assets, in which they propose to include this historic mansion.
However, the mayor has stated that the local government will not support the motion, as the council plans to undertake the mansion's rehabilitation. This decision is part of the recent acquisition by the Town Council of an abandoned and unfinished apartment building, adjacent to Florita's House, for 1.5 million euros from the entity Hoteles Nuevo Milenio.
“"That license that the Town Council gave the developer to build a property with 52 apartments, 64 parking spaces, and 35 storage rooms on Guardia Juan Martín Quesada street no. 4 included the repair of the mansion."
The original license for the private developer included the obligation to restore the mansion, a project that was never carried out. The unlicensed demolition of part of Florita's House led to the halt of construction, leaving both buildings abandoned for 25 years until the recent municipal purchase.
The NC motion also seeks to prevent similar situations in the future, urging the local government to formulate and approve Special Protection Plans for Mogán's heritage. Additionally, it proposes designing a protocol for precautionary measures against risks of heritage deterioration, allocating at least 1.5% of the budget for municipal public works exceeding 300,000 euros to cultural conservation, and creating a specialized unit within the Local Police for heritage surveillance.
