The judicial decision was made after the arrested individuals were brought before the court, following an operation conducted by the Civil Guard. The cargo ship, sailing under the flag of the Comoros Islands, was intercepted off the coast of Western Sahara.
According to investigations, the vessel had departed from Sierra Leone with a declared destination of Libya. The seized drug cargo exceeds 30 tons, setting a new record for the amount of cocaine intercepted in Canarian waters.
The individuals involved are being investigated for alleged drug trafficking offenses and membership in a criminal organization, given the scale of the operation and the quantity of illicit substance transported.
