A Guardia Civil agent from Adeje, in southern Tenerife, carried out a high-risk rescue last Saturday, saving a man in danger in a rocky area with strong waves.

After being alerted to the disappearance of a 28-year-old man, who might be on a rocky outcrop between Los Morteros and Diego Hernández beaches, the Guardia Civil organized a search operation. Upon locating the individual, he attempted to jump to another rock from a height of approximately three meters. However, he fell into the water, and the intense waves battered him against the rocks and swept him away.
Given the severity of the situation, one of the agents immediately jumped into the sea. He had to dive multiple times to keep the man afloat and away from the rocks, while other officers mobilized a nearby rigid-hulled inflatable boat.
The boat managed to approach and take both individuals aboard. However, during the transfer, the rescued man struggled and threw himself back into the water. The agent had to rescue him a second time, securing him until they reached the nearest beach.
Once ashore, both were attended by medical services and taken to a hospital. Medical examinations revealed that the man had sustained several injuries, and the agent has been temporarily declared unfit for duty.

The agent's actions go beyond duty, defying danger by altruistically prioritizing the lives of others over his own, demonstrating an outstanding intervention in aid and citizen protection, marked by rapid reaction and a strong commitment to the benevolent spirit, even in conditions of extreme danger and heavy surf.

The Guardia Civil has highlighted this exemplary conduct that dignifies the uniform and its humanitarian mission of aid and citizen protection, evident since its foundation in 1844.
