The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has approved a new ordinance regulating rental aid, adjusting the criteria to reflect real market costs and extend benefits to more residents.
The Housing Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has given final approval to the ordinance that establishes the basis for granting aid for habitual and permanent housing rental in the municipality. This approval comes after the public exhibition period concluded without any objections, as reported by the local government.
With this approval, the Housing Department sets in motion the regulatory framework that will allow for a new call for aid aimed at working individuals and families. This initiative seeks to strengthen municipal support in response to the increasing cost of rent.
The new ordinance introduces significant improvements compared to the 2024 call, aiming to broaden access and adapt the aid to the current real estate market. Among the main changes, the subsidized rental limit has been raised to 1,000 euros per month, extendable to 1,100 euros for large families, compared to the previous 850 euros. For room rentals, the cap increases to 600 euros, improving on the previous 550 euros limit.
Regarding economic requirements, applicants must be in active employment. The previous minimum income threshold for families has been removed, and the income ceiling has been expanded to up to 4.5 times the IPREM, allowing more household units to access these aids. Furthermore, the criterion of local residency is strengthened, establishing a minimum of five years of registration in the municipal census.
“
"These aids allow us to respond to one of the main concerns of families in the municipality, which is access to housing. With this ordinance, we consolidate a useful tool that puts resources directly into the hands of those who need them most and helps alleviate the economic burden of rent."
The ordinance maintains the direct rental support model, establishing aid of up to 30% of the rent, which can reach 40% for large families, with a maximum limit of 3,000 euros annually per beneficiary. This system allows for adjusting the aid to the real situation of each applicant based on their income and family composition.
“
"We have reviewed and improved the criteria to adapt them to the current market situation, expanding rental limits and income thresholds so that more families can benefit. We are taking a step forward from the previous ordinance, with a fairer, clearer system and greater capacity to respond to the social reality of the municipality."
Following the approval of this ordinance, the City Council is now working on the next call for applications, which will define the budget, deadlines, and the subsidized period. It is at that point that the application submission period will open.
