Televisión Canaria concluded May 2026 with a remarkable 8.2% audience share, marking its best May performance in the last 16 years. This achievement not only symbolizes a milestone for the regional broadcaster but also consolidates a trend of sustained growth, improving by 2.2 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
The general administrator of Radio Televisión Canaria, César Toledo, expressed his pride in the channel's connection with the reality of the Islands: “We are creating a television that is more ours than ever, much closer, more sensitive, and more immediate, which connects better every day with the reality of Canary Islands.” He highlighted that the audience rewards the talent and commitment of the public television professionals.
With this result, Televisión Canaria achieves 13 consecutive months of year-on-year growth in audience share. César Toledo emphasized that the improvement compared to May 2025 is 2.2 points, a 28% increase, positioning the channel as the one that has grown the most in Canary Islands over the past year among all generalist channels.
In the Canarian audiovisual landscape, Televisión Canaria (8.2%) consolidates itself as the third most-watched channel, surpassing La 1 (6.0%), Cuatro (5.4%), and La Sexta (5.1%). Only Antena 3 (13.3%) and Telecinco (10.4%) are ahead. The public channel has been the leader in Canary Islands for the fourth consecutive month and is the regional broadcaster with the highest growth in Spain.
During the Canary Islands Month, the channel's programming reinforced its connection with viewers through relatable content, focusing on traditions, local entertainment, and Canarian current affairs, reaffirming its role as an audiovisual reference and a showcase for the identity and culture of the Islands.
The growth occurs in a context of strong television fragmentation. While other generalist channels are losing viewership, Televisión Canaria maintains a positive trend, being the fastest-growing channel in the Islands since the start of the season. Since August 2025, it has improved its audience share by 1.9 points and gained 6,000 more viewers.
In May, an average of 343,000 Canarians connected daily with the channel, 13,000 more than in April and 26,000 more than a year ago. Over 1.2 million viewers watched the channel at some point, reaching 56.1% of the Archipelago's population.
The growth is transversal, particularly notable in the 25-44 age group, where it achieved a 9.1% audience share (an 85.7% year-on-year increase). The trend was also positive among younger viewers (13-24 years old), with a 7.1% share.
By provinces, Las Palmas recorded 8.8% and Tenerife 7.5%, both growing by 2.2 points. The midday slot (11%) and prime time (8.5%) are consolidated as strategic high-consumption periods.
These results reinforce Televisión Canaria's position as an increasingly competitive medium within the Archipelago's audiovisual market, strengthening its ability to connect with broad and diverse audiences through an offering based on proximity, identity, and public service, reaffirming its commitment to useful television that reflects the reality of the Islands.
