The Mogán City Council has requested greater flexibility in the management of European funds, arguing that current criteria do not adapt to the administrative reality of Canarian municipalities, hindering project execution and deadline compliance.

A technician from the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, visited Mogán this Wednesday to audit actions funded by European funds aimed at the rehabilitation and improvement of Playa de Mogán avenue and its adjacent streets.
During the visit, the mayor, accompanied by councillors and municipal technicians, conveyed to the FEMP representative the need to review the management criteria for these funds. The goal is for them to better adapt to the administrative reality of Canarian municipalities, allowing for more agile and viable processing of local initiatives.

"Legislation and regulations are often created in offices, but these rules do not adapt to the reality of local administrations."

The mayor warned that the current lack of flexibility often leads local entities to forgo funding opportunities due to an inability to meet established deadlines and requirements. She emphasized the

faced by Canarian city councils when processing projects, a process that often requires permits from higher administrations, slowing down execution and making it difficult to meet European Union deadlines.
The FEMP technician committed to relaying these observations to the Undersecretariat of State for European Funds. The aim is to evaluate possible improvements in the bases of future calls for proposals and thus facilitate the participation of municipalities in European programs.
The audited project, named 'All you need it's Playa de Mogán', has comprehensively transformed the tourist and commercial environment of the coastal area. Actions included the rehabilitation of the Paseo de Los Pescadores, Rivera del Carmen, La Mina, Avenida de Las Artes streets, and Alcalde Miguel Marrero Street – the beach promenade. Interactive totems, recycling islands, renewed urban furniture, and a children's playground were also installed.
The total investment for this project amounts to 2,153,556.25 euros. 77.85% of this amount was financed by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Trade through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, with NextGenerationEU funds, while the remainder was contributed by the Mogán City Council.
The mayor recalled that Mogán is a

having obtained 38 million euros since 2015, and thanked the municipal technical team for their work in making these projects possible.
