The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has cordoned off the El Perchel promenade and is considering its closure due to severe damage caused by storm Therese in late March.

Storm Therese, which hit Gran Canaria in late March, left the El Perchel promenade in San Bartolomé de Tirajana in a very poor state. Faced with this situation, the City Council was forced to cordon off the area and is evaluating the possibility of closing it for safety reasons.
The Department of Urban Planning, coordinated by Davinia Ramírez, has indicated that closure is the most likely measure to ensure public safety. The initial alert came from the Beaches Department, led by councilor Yilenia Vega, who, after confirming damages such as torn railings and detached planks, requested an urgent inspection by Security and Urban Discipline.
An urban planning technician visited the site on Thursday and, given the severity of the damage, proceeded to preventively cordon off the most affected section. This action is considered a preliminary step before an official closure is imposed, according to municipal sources.
The repair of the promenade raises questions about who will bear the costs. Although the work was carried out by a private company with an investment of over two million euros, the damage is located on public domain land, complicating the determination of responsibilities.
The promenade, part of the Resort Cordial Santa Águeda, is only six years old. With 384 linear meters and 1,800 square meters of surface area, it pedestrianly connects the fishing villages of El Pajar, in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and La Playa de Arguineguín, in Mogán. It was promoted by Be Cordial Hotels & Resorts, footballer David Jiménez Silva, and the Castillo family, and includes the Perchel Beach Club and 87 luxury holiday homes.
