The Cabildo de Lanzarote and Tinajo City Council are completing preparations for the implementation of electric buses that will operate controlled routes in Los Volcanes Natural Park, aiming to promote sustainable mobility and protect the natural environment.

The two medium-sized electric buses, acquired with Cabildo funds and the mediation of Tinajo City Council, have already arrived on the island. These vehicles are intended for controlled tours to points of interest such as Caldera Blanca and Volcán del Cuervo, primarily departing from Mancha Blanca.
According to recent statements by the island's Minister of Environment, Samuel Martín, the service is expected to begin operating in the first weeks of summer. The investment in these units, manufactured by KLBuses, amounted to 792,000 euros, representing significant savings compared to the initial estimated price of one million euros.
Additionally, a third smaller bus has been acquired for 350,000 euros, whose main function will be to cover routes in the urban area, including stops at local wineries and cheese factories. This comprehensive project seeks to promote more efficient and safe tourism, using renewable energies and aligning with Lanzarote's sustainability and natural heritage conservation policies.
The initiative also includes improvements to access trails, where currently there are deteriorated and graffiti-covered panels, as well as uncontrolled pedestrian traffic outside the designated paths. The Public Use Strategy for Los Volcanes Natural Park represents a pioneering model in the Canary Islands, combining sustainability, collective mobility, landscape conservation, and improved tourist experience, with the support of the Cabildo and a team of twenty professionals for its daily operation, including surveillance.
Visitor quotas are planned based on carrying capacity studies, and the system will be extended to other areas of the municipality of Yaiza, reinforcing control over tourist pressure in natural spaces.
