The Cabildo de Lanzarote has awarded the management of three residential care centers for vulnerable minors for an amount of 3.36 million euros for the next two years.

The entity Fundación Respuesta Social Siglo XXI will be in charge of the comprehensive care of a maximum of 25 daily users in the Yaiza I, Yaiza II, and Alegranza centers. This decision follows a bidding process initiated in late 2025, which had an initial budget of 3.49 million euros and two valid proposals.
The contract signing between the parties will be formalized between the end of this month and early May. From then on, the awarded entity will assume the responsibility of providing a safe and professional environment for the minors.
The selected entity already has previous experience in Lanzarote, having managed other facilities for the care of minors sponsored by the Cabildo, both in the capital and in Tinajo.

"We are talking about minors who need a safe, stable, and professional environment, and our duty is to guarantee it with the highest quality. The reorganization of the centers, the adaptation to regulations, and the improvement of staff working conditions reflect our strong commitment."

the president of the Cabildo
The reorganization of these centers responds to the Government of Canarias taking over the initial reception of migrant minors starting in April 2024. This has meant that the island centers are no longer first-response facilities and must be transformed into stable resources, in accordance with Decree 40/2000, which regulates minors' care centers in the regional scope, with a maximum of 10 users per facility.
The former Yaiza Minors' Center, which had 15 places, has been divided into two independent resources: Yaiza I, with 8 places, and Yaiza II, with 7 places. Meanwhile, the Alegranza center, located in Arrecife, will be configured for the reception of unaccompanied foreign minors, with a maximum capacity for 10 users.

"Every child and adolescent under the guardianship of this Cabildo will receive the attention they deserve. We will continue to work so that Lanzarote and La Graciosa become a benchmark in social protection and the defense of childhood."
