The Yaiza City Council has launched a project to renew public lighting in the Castillo del Águila Partial Plan, in Playa Blanca, with the installation of 392 new streetlights aimed at improving the area's energy efficiency.

This initiative, coordinated by the Yaiza Consistory, involves an investment of 144,000 euros, sourced from European funds. The project is part of the Soy Canary Green initiative, which promotes sustainability across the archipelago.
The project is driven by the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC), of which Yaiza is a member along with thirteen other Canary Islands municipalities. These municipalities, considered the most significant in the tourism sector, work to maintain destination quality through actions that foster sustainability.

"We are changing all the luminaires in this residential and tourist area, taking another step towards energy efficiency in public lighting."

During a visit to supervise improvements in the Castillo del Águila area, the municipal official also announced future actions. New, fully self-sufficient solar streetlights have been ordered to illuminate the bike path connecting the entrance to Playa Blanca with the industrial zone. The supplier is expected to deliver these luminaires in June for subsequent installation.
