Arona City Council held a working meeting with the Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Poli Suárez, and the Director General of Infrastructures and Equipment, Iván G. Carro. The meeting focused on the municipality's main educational projects and actions carried out in its schools. Representing Arona City Council were the Mayoress, Fátima Lemes Reverón, the First Deputy Mayoress, Clari Pérez, the Councilor for Education, Héctor Reyes, and the Councilor for Urban Planning, Javier Baute.
During the meeting, the Ministry confirmed that the Parque La Reina Special Education Center is moving forward. Currently, it is necessary to complete and update various administrative procedures to advance the process and soon begin drafting the project. The future center is planned as a benchmark facility for the region, capable of meeting the needs of students with special educational requirements, and is expected to include a residential service.
Furthermore, the Government of the Canary Islands confirmed that the plot of the former SAFE in Los Cristianos remains included in the Educational Infrastructure Plan 2024-2031, with the provision to develop a new educational facility in this space.
The meeting also allowed for a review of the investments made by the Ministry in Arona's educational centers. According to the analyzed report, between 2024 and 2026, 158 incidents and improvement requests were registered in 19 educational centers in the municipality, with a total investment of 3,678,323.49 euros. The document also includes 49 extraordinary provisions during this period, amounting to 1,336,906.41 euros, intended for improvements, maintenance, and refurbishment of educational infrastructures.
The interventions have included work on shaded areas, roofs, courts, enclosures, sports facilities, accessibility, dining halls, kitchens, bathrooms, fencing, repairs, air conditioning, general maintenance, and the improvement of various school facilities. These interventions have been carried out in educational centers including those in Buzanada, Cabo Blanco, El Fraile, Chayofa, Playa de Las Américas, Luis Álvarez Cruz, La Estrella, Parque La Reina, Los Cristianos, and Las Galletas, as well as the IES Ichasagua, the Centro Educativo Montaña de Guaza, and the CEO Arona.
