The first episode of this new season features Canarian musician Isora Castilla, in conversation with journalist Yaiza Díaz. Castilla, a pianist, orchestra conductor, and music researcher based in Switzerland, shares her early musical learning experiences, the evolution of learning methods, opportunities, and her perspective on music sector management in both the Canary Islands and Europe.
This podcast, which began in 2025, aims to give a voice to those at the forefront of the music industry on the islands, exploring the sector's intricacies and experiences from various perspectives. Each episode, recorded in different cultural spaces across the Canary Islands, features a dialogue between communication professionals and prominent figures in the island's music scene.
The career of Isora Castilla, born in Tenerife in 1979 and raised in La Palma, serves as the central theme for this first installment. After beginning her musical studies in the Canary Islands, she continued them in Switzerland, where she has forged an extensive career as a performer and conductor, alongside her research focused on the piano in flamenco and her teaching activities.
Future episodes of ‘Backstage’ will include contributions from other industry professionals such as Braulio Pérez (manager), Manuel González (musician and composer), and cultural managers Cristina del Río, Fernando Jiménez, and Alejandra Ojeda.
The inaugural episode is now available on the ‘Cultura GobCan’ channel on platforms like Spotify and YouTube. Subsequent episodes will be released on the first Thursday of each month.
