The General Directorate of Social Services has published the bases for the call for 12 accommodation places at the Casa del Mar Hostel in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, intended for students enrolled in public centers for the maritime-fishing sector on the island.

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Social Services and Immigration, has launched a call to offer 12 accommodation places at the Casa del Mar Hostel, located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This initiative aims to facilitate the stay of students enrolled in public centers specializing in the maritime sector in Tenerife.
According to the Director General of Social Services, Elisabet Santana, interested students must be enrolled or in the process of enrolling in undergraduate or vocational training studies in maritime-fishing specialties at public centers in Tenerife for the 2026/27 academic year. A key requirement is to prove that their registered address is at least 30 km away from the training center. Furthermore, they must not have been previously expelled from the Hostel.
The assessment criteria for accessing these places include the applicant's situation of vulnerability or social exclusion, academic performance, the distance between their home and the educational center, as well as whether the student belongs to a large family or is a holder or beneficiary of the Special Maritime Regime (REM).
Students have a period of 10 business days, starting from the day after publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC), to submit their applications through the link provided by the Canary Islands Tax Agency.
Once the application and, if applicable, correction periods have concluded, a Valuation Committee will study and evaluate the applications according to the established criteria. Subsequently, a proposal for provisional award of student residence places at the Casa del Mar Hostel in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and any reserve list, will be sent to the General Directorate of Social Services and Immigration.
Admitted students will be required to pay the accommodation cost, with a public price ranging from €55 to €170 per month depending on family income. This cost does not include services such as meals, laundry, cleaning, or transportation. Payment must be made between the 1st and 15th of each month through the electronic headquarters of the Canary Islands Tax Agency.
