Following a meeting held at Tenerife South Airport, the involved parties established a roadmap to adapt airport operations to the specific needs of the islands. The measure, which had raised concerns regarding its impact on public transport, will not be implemented during 2026.
To ensure a permanent solution, a monitoring committee has been formed to work between October and December. This group will include representatives from the Directorate General for Transport and Mobility, the seven island councils, and the transport sector to analyze data and reach a consensus on necessary technical adjustments.
Aena has committed to upgrading waiting areas by providing facilities such as shade and restrooms for transport professionals. During this transition period, barriers will remain operational solely for data collection purposes to inform future decisions for 2027.
