These works, which addressed a community and commercial demand of approximately 40 years, were executed during the current term as part of the fourth resurfacing plan promoted by mayor Yonathan de León Machín. The intervention was carried out in a planned manner, accelerating the work in July and August to minimize traffic disruptions, coinciding with the holiday period.
With the reopening of the 2026/2027 school year next week, the intervened streets feature new asphalt pavement, improving safety and access to educational centers. Since July 2023 until this summer, the council has repaved nearly 300 streets, representing the largest historical investment in pavement renewal in the neighborhoods of the capital of Lanzarote.
Last May, the resurfacing of the interior streets of the homes in the fishing neighborhood of Valterra was completed, including Benito Pérez Armas, Dr. Alfonso Spínola, Francisco Fernández Bethencourt, and Adolfo Topham. During July and August, the awarded company worked on streets such as Gerona, Tarragona, La Sotileza, Cataluña, El Indio, La Rosa, Trinidad Perdomo, Júpiter, Vicente Vila González, Neptuno, Norte, Guanapay, as well as access roads adjacent to the facilities of the Civil Guard and Social Security.
Mayor Yonathan de León has confirmed that resurfacing actions will continue in the autumn and winter in the streets of Argana Alta and Maneje, projects included in the municipal public works budgets for 2026.
