The story of Bodegas Figuero, a benchmark in the Ribera del Duero region, began 25 years ago, driven by the dream of José María García and Milagros Figuero. This month, the winery not only celebrates its quarter-century milestone but also José María's 90th birthday, as he remains actively involved in the company's daily operations.
A crucial moment in the family's journey was April 4, 2001, the date the winery was founded, coinciding with José María's 65th birthday and retirement. To celebrate this milestone, his children gifted him a trip to Tenerife with his wife, Milagros Figuero. This marked their first flight, making the experience an unforgettable memory.
During their stay in Tenerife, the couple lodged at the iconic Hotel Botánico in Puerto de la Cruz. They embarked on daily excursions to explore the island, becoming captivated by its landscapes and unique gastronomy. This connection with the Canary Islands, which José María still cherishes, has endured over the years.
The year 2026 holds particular significance for Figuero, as several milestones converge: the winery's 25th anniversary, José María's 90th birthday, and the anniversary of that initial trip to the Canary Islands. The company has successfully evolved and adapted to new consumer trends while preserving its founder's essence. The Milagros wine, a tribute to Milagros Figuero, exemplifies their commitment to quality.
Although in 2001 they did not foresee the importance of their bond with the Canary Islands, today Figuero wines enjoy significant recognition and consumption across the archipelago, with a notable presence in the market and hospitality sector. This lasting relationship ensures that the Canary Islands hold a special place in the entrepreneur's heart, who values the appreciation for his wines in the local gastronomy.
