The XXI Subida Los Loros – Isla de Tenerife, held in the municipality of Arafo, has concluded with Juan C. Brito and Javier Afonso crowned champions in their respective categories. The event, part of the Spanish Championship and the regional Mountain Championship, attracted numerous fans.
In the touring car category, Juan Carlos Brito, driving a Ford Fiesta R5, recovered from a previous abandonment to dominate Saturday's proceedings. His accumulated time of 6:52.115 placed him at the top of both the national and regional classifications. Sergio Fuentes, in a Citroën C3 N5, secured the second national spot, 6.745 seconds behind the winner. Ángel Bello, with a Skoda Fabia Rally2, completed the national podium just 1.067 seconds behind Fuentes, also winning Class 2.
Galician driver Jorge Pérez made his debut in Tenerife with a Porsche, achieving fourth place in the national classification and victory in the GT category. José Manuel González, also in a Porsche, finished fifth, strengthening his lead in the Spanish Championship. Meanwhile, Juan Jesús Flores won Group H and Class 8 with his Honda Civic.
In the open-wheel category, Javier Afonso, piloting his Silver Car S3, successfully defended the lead he had held since Friday. Despite pressure from Héctor Mederos and Carlos A. Pérez, Afonso set a total time of 6:47.784, finishing 951 milliseconds ahead of the second-placed driver and 1.220 seconds ahead of the third.
In the regional championship, the top positions remained unchanged. Brito recorded an unreachable time of 3:25.781 in the final heat. Fuentes secured second place, 2.816 seconds behind, while Bello completed the regional podium 3.925 seconds after the winner.
Other class victories included Abel Mesa (Porsche 911 GT3) in his group, Manuel Jonathan Mesa (BMW M3) in Class 1, Javier Martínez Carracedo (Renault 5 GT Turbo) in Class 4, Roberto Díaz (Citroën Saxo VTS) in Class 5, Juan Jesús Flores in H8, Néstor Torres (Volkswagen Golf GTI) in Class 6, and Jonathan de la Rosa (Peugeot 206) in Class 7.
The open-wheel competition in the regional championship was particularly close. Javier Afonso set the best time at 3:23.731, closely followed by Héctor Mederos at 613 milliseconds and Carlos A. Pérez at 716 milliseconds, making it one of the tightest duels of the XXI Subida Los Loros.
In the regularity sport category, victory went to Armando and Evelio Pérez with their Volkswagen Golf GTI (4.9 points), followed by José M. Martín – Sonia Alonso (BMW 635 CSI) with 7.6 points and Carlos Jorge – Sergio Marrero (Porsche 911 SC) with 8.3 points. In regularity, Miguel Ángel Benito and Pedro Fariña (Volkswagen Scirocco) took their latest win with 2.8 points.
The trophy presentation ceremony took place at the Plaza San Juan Degollado in Arafo, attended by political and sports authorities.
